As they announce another night of live comedy, the owners of The Golf Inn at No1 Golf Place, St Andrews, have talked about the surprise success of their first festive season at the helm of their new venture.

Brett and Gillian Lawrence, who already run the award winning Rocca Deli in Bell Street in the town, only acquired The Golf Inn in September, giving them very little time to plan and prepare for Christmas.

But with chef Rory McCrimmon on board, they were able to compile a range of appealing festive food and cocktail menus, plus plan a Hogmanay Party which was so successful that guests who attended, many of whom stayed the night, have already re-booked for Hogmanay 2020.

“We’re really pleased with how it all went, and would like to extend our thanks to everyone who came along to support us, whether it was having a meal or a drink, attending the Comedy Night, or seeing in the New Year with us,” said Brett.

“When a venue like this changes hands, it can take a bit of time to build up a new clientele – we were just looking for people to come and try us out, see what we have on offer, so it really means a lot to us that so many local people got behind us.  Rory really smashed it with his festive menus, which included innovative dishes such as avocado ice-cream and charred cauliflower steak.”

“This year we will be even better prepared as we can start planning for Christmas in the late summer, ordering what we need in September. We want to have Christmas Parties, and of course, another Hogmanay bash. We’re also going to have many more comedy nights – the next one is Monday 3rd February, and once again features acts from Icebreaker Comedy.

The Comedy Night line up includes:

Andy Bullick

Bryan Ghosh

Connor Burns – Best Newcomer Nominee at Scottish Comedy Awards

Bylgja Babylons – “one of the top performers in the Scottish Comedy scene” – The Wee Review.
