Berwick Bandits legend Kevin Doolan has confirmed he is stepping back from full-time speedway but the popular Aussie plans to stay involved with the Borders club.
Doolan, who is a retained fire fighter in the Borders town, said: “I’ve decided not to commit to a full season of racing in 2020. I still love racing and I don’t see myself hanging the boots up.
“But I do feel like stepping away from full-time racing and this will free up some time for me to explore other opportunities in life.”
He added: “For me, the timing feels right. I don’t have any concrete plans. I’ll continue to be involved at Berwick helping both the riders and promotion.”
Meanwhile, former Edinburgh Monarchs star Steve Worrall will tack for SGB Championship newcomers Poole Pirates next season.
The Lancashire-born racer heads to Wimborne Road after riding for Newcastle Diamonds in the second tier this summer.
His twin brother Richie rode for the Pirates in recent Premiership campaign. Richie is now with Edinburgh.
Pirates’ co-promoter Matt Ford said: “I have always had a lot of admiration for Stevie. He’s a good rider and has gained lots of experience as a No 1 at Championship level. We are expecting him to start at No 3 for the Pirates.”
Meanwhile, another former Monarchs rider, Kyle Howarth, has signed for league and play-off winners, Leicester Lions.
Howarth, a former British under-21 champion, will also ride for Sheffield Tigers who are now in the SGB Premiership.
