Hibernian Academy graduate Josh Currie has agreed his first professional contract.
In the presence of his proud family – plus Head of Academy Coaching Eddie May and Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom – the 16-year-old put pen to paper on a deal that will run until the summer of 2022.
Highly-rated striker Josh joined Hibernian at the age of 13 but has spent the last 18 months on the sidelines after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury in training.
Now in the latter stages of his rehabilitation programme, this boost has come at the perfect time for all concerned.
The teenager told Hibernian Media: “I’m delighted to have signed my first professional contract at a club as big as Hibernian.
“Coming here was the best decision I could have made, and I’ve improved so much as a player and learned a lot as a person in those three years.
“I’d like to thank my coaches and the other staff who have done a lot to help me, particularly since I picked up the injury, and I’m really looking forward to getting back out there when I get the all-clear.
“This is obviously a big moment for me but I know it’s just another small step.
“Like every other young player in here I know I have to keep my head down, work hard and take my opportunity when it comes.”
Head of Youth Gareth Evans added: “We’re really pleased to have Josh staying here with us for at least another three years.
“He’s a talented boy but he has impressed everyone with his determination and professionalism in coming back from such a serious injury at such a young age.
“Hopefully he’s able to get back to enjoying his football again and we’ll all do what we can to make sure he becomes the best player he can be.”
John graduated from Telford College in 2010 with an HNC in Practical Journalism and since then he worked for the North Edinburgh News, The Southern Reporter, the Irish News Review and The Edinburgh Reporter. In addition he has been published in the Edinburgh Evening News and the Hibernian FC Programme.
