Anne Blake has become only the second Balerno Bowling Club (BBC) member to win the Steele Trophy.

Elspeth Oliver won the coveted prize in 1994 and Anne triumphed by beating Scottish international Gillian Mackintosh 21-14 last Friday.

The Balerno-based bowler was behind at the start of the final in the competition run by the Edinburgh Womens’ Bowling Association (EWBA).

Anne then moved ahead and took control in blustery conditions at Edinburgh’s Willowbrae green.

She favoured a long game while her opponent from the London Road Foundry club wanted to play a short jack.

The BBC player was in the seniors team from Balerno (Helen Girdler, Margaret Turner,
Mabel Jackson and Anne) which took silver in the British Isles championships earlier this year in Jersey.

And she has twice been part of a Balerno team which won the EWBA triples title, once with Helen Girdler and Ruth Vasey and also with Helen and Margaret Turner.
