Berwick Bandits rider Aaron Summers has received high praise from Leicester Lions star Scott Nicholls.

Aussie-born Summers, a former Edinburgh Monarchs and Glasgow Tigers rider, won three of his five rides as Lions roared to a 53-37 win over Sheffield Tigers.

Skipper Nicholls, who is also a TV pundit, claimed a four-ride, 12-point maximum whilst Summers top scored with 13 to keep Lions only two points behind pace-setting Glasgow.

Summers replaced crocked Richie Worrall, another former Glasgow and Edinburgh star, and Nicholls said: “It’s important for us to keep the momentum going covering for Richie and Aaron did a fantastic job.”

Meanwhile, ex-Edinburgh skipper Erik Riss scored 13 for red-hot Redcar Bears who completed a successful weekend with a 53-37 home win over Eastbourne Eagles. Richard Lawson top-scored for the Eagles with 12.

And Josh Auty scored a 15-point maximum as Scunthorpe Scorpions turned the tables on Edinburgh with a 56-34 home win.

Scorpions equalled their biggest win of the season as they took revenge over the Monarchs, who had beaten them at Armadale on Friday.

Simon Lambert said: “We got tonked at Edinburgh on Friday night so it was nice for us to bounce back and give them even more of a hammering than they gave to us.”
