Chris Harris claimed nine points plus two bonus points on his record-breaking 1,200th official appearance in British speedway as Glasgow Tigers skidded to a disappointing 51-39 defeat in the Cab Direct Championship at Redcar Bears.
That’s the highest number of appearances by any rider since the sport started in the UK in 1929.
Harris, nicknamed Bomber, said: “Getting out the starts was important and it was disappointing the way the team was performing.
“The track was OK, it was a bit heavy. The Redcar guys are fast.”
The experienced campaigner added: “We were busting our backsides to get the points back, but it wasn’t enough on the night, sadly.”
Cami Brown, Tigers’ team manager, Cami Brown, admitted: “We didn’t click as a unit.”
He admitted that his men are not firing on all cylinders and said: “You cannot have passengers away from home, you won’t get results.”
Redcar win the aggregate bonus point and Glasgow’s attention now focuses on making sure they claim all three points from their last home match against Scunthorpe next Friday.
