Stuart Fairbairn landed the biggest fish in the eighth round of the Bass Rock Sea Angling League summer series.

The Haddington-based angler hooked into a cod weighing in at 3lbs 5oz using crab and mussel bait to the east of Dunbar Harbour. He came second overall.

Chris Empson from Dunbar claimed the biggest bag with four, a mixture of wrass and cod also fishing to the east of the harbour. It totalled 13lb 13oz.

Only five anglers weighed in after a tough, three-hour stint with a heavy swell and the tide making things hard.

Thomas Slow from Portobello was third and John Cameron from East Craigs in Edinburgh fourth with John McPhail from near Haddington fifth.

Cod, wrasse and rockling were caught and the weather stayed fair.

Craig Ogilvie, the club’s chairman, said the ninth and second last round of the series will be held on August 15 and the venue will be announced on the weekend before on the club’s Facebook page, Bass Rock SAL. New members are welcome.
