Peter Lloyd (22) is climbing Mount Snowdon on 22 June – in a wheelchair which he controls with his chin.

He will be supported by a team of assistants called Peaty Blinders, made up of friends and family, who will help him negotiate the terrain on the highest mountain in Wales at over 3,560 feet. This is all part of the Snowdon Push which is a team event with one member in a wheelchair. The rest of the team then have to push, pull or wheel their way to the top. Last year over £70,000 was raised after the same event.

Peter sustained a spinal cord injury in August 2017. A keen mountain biker, he was finishing the last 100 metres of a ride when he crashed off his bike and broke his neck. The accident left him paralysed from the neck down.

Speaking about the challenge, Peter said: ‘‘There’s a real appeal for me in doing things that many people don’t think that someone paralysed from the neck down can do. Unlike others taking part, I’ll be doing the Push in a powered off-road wheelchair that I control with my chin, so this will be more of a personal challenge – though my team will still be essential for carrying spare batteries, helping me if I get stuck, and making the experience more fun.’’

Peter is raising funds for the spinal cord injury charity Back Up.
