United Airlines celebrated 15 years of service from Edinburgh to New York/Newark earlier this week with The First Piper, Ross OC Jennings on board.

As United Airlines flight 39 reached cruising altitude at 35,000 feet, customers on board listened to “Scotland the Brave” played by The First Piper, Ross OC Jennings.

In his quest to become the first person to play the bagpipes in every country around the world, Ross embarked on his journey with United Airlines to country number 100, the United States, where he will take part in NYC Tartan Week.

Commenting on this unique flight, Bob Schumacher, United Airlines Managing Director Sales U.K. and Ireland, said:“We are proud to have served Edinburgh for 15 years and fly The First Piper, Ross OC Jennings, from Edinburgh to New York.  Playing the bagpipes at 35,000 feet is quite remarkable. I am sure our customers and crew were more than pleasantly surprised by this new innovation in inflight entertainment.”

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “As the airport where Scotland meets the world, we’re happy to send Ross off to another part of it as he continues his campaign to pipe in every country in the world. We wish him well and hope passengers enjoyed their Scottish send off!”

“Can’t think of a better way to kick off my 100th country, the USA, then being able to pipe on a United Airlines flight at 35,000 feet! I’ve piped in some unusual places around the world, but this quite literally has topped them all!” said Ross OC Jennings.
