Edinburgh Airport has named Mark Johnston as its new Chief Executive, succeeding Gordon Dewar.
He will assume the role on 1 October, as Gordon steps down after 14 years, having overseen an 85% increase in passenger numbers.
Mark returns to his home city from London Gatwick Airport, where he served as Chief Operating Officer.
Mark previously held the position of Managing Director at Glasgow Airport before his two-and-a-half-year tenure at Gatwick.
During Gordon’s time as Chief Executive, passenger numbers at Edinburgh grew from 9 million in 2012 to nearly 17 million in 2025.
The airport connects Scotland to hubs across the UK, Europe, USA, and the Middle and Far East, operating 240 routes to over 160 destinations with 39 airlines.
The transport hub generated £2.7bn Gross Value Added and supported almost 44,000 jobs in the Scottish economy last year.
Mark joins as the facility embarks on its largest capital investment programme to date.
Operations are guided by a sustainability strategy named Greater Good.
Edinburgh Airport is jointly owned by VINCI Airports, which holds a 50.01% stake, and Global Infrastructure Partners, which manages the remaining 49.99%.
VINCI Airports manages over 70 sites globally and targets zero net emissions by 2050, while GIP, part of BlackRock, handles over $170bn in assets.
Stewart Wingate, VINCI Airports Managing Director for the UK, stated Johnston is positioned to deliver the next phase of development.
Departing Chief Executive Gordon Dewar said: “I’ve known Mark for many years and he brings a wealth of aviation experience, strong leadership credentials and a deep understanding of Scotland’s aviation market.
“Just as importantly, he knows Edinburgh, understands the role this airport plays in the city’s success and recognises its international appeal.”
