THREE people have been rushed to hospital after a serious multi-car crash near Edinburgh Airport on Monday morning.
The pile-up took place before 9:30am between Gogar and Edinburgh Airport, and forced the closure of the A8 Glasgow Road, which is the only road route into the airport.
The road has been closed in both directions for more than three hours now, causing a transport nightmare for holidaymakers.
Images from the scene show several cars affected, with one flipped on its head and another with a caved-in roof.
A spokesperson from the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 09:22 to attend a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on the A8 near Ingliston.
“We dispatched three ambulances, two special operations response teams (SORT), a paramedic response unit (PRU), and a critical care paramedic to the scene.
“We transported three patients to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”
A fire spokesperson confirmed three appliances had been deployed to the scene following reports of a crash just before 9:30am on Monday.
They also confirmed the collision occurred close to the BP garage.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A8 is closed at Newbridge following a report of a serious crash around 9″25am on Monday, 7 September, 2026.
“Emergency services are in attendance and diversions are being put in place. Motorists are advised to use another route.”
A police helicopter was spotted hovering above the scene.
On social media, Traffic Scotland added: “The A8 remains CLOSED in both directions between Newbridge – Edi Airport due to a collision
“Traffic for the airport must use the M8 onto the Bypass and up to Gogar
“Traffic remains heavily congested.”
