Edinburgh-based IT company FarrPoint has developed a comprehensive interactive broadband mapping tool for Nottinghamshire County Council, which is the first of its kind in the UK.
The When and Where interactive map will provide local residents and businesses in the region with easy access to detailed information on availability of superfast broadband, right down to individual premises.
This easy access to a visual representation of service availability will help residents and businesses take advantage of the benefits of superfast broadband access and is the first of its kind in the UK, with other mapping tools only providing broadband connectivity information at a postcode level.
Residents will have the option to register their details on the website in order to receive regular updates and reminders to take-up new faster services where they are available.
Dr Andrew Muir, CEO of FarrPoint, said: “We worked closely as part of the NCC team to design and deliver the map, which will be used to drive the uptake of broadband networks for residents and local business.
“The benefits of the tool also go much further by providing the NCC team with the ability to respond quicker to queries thanks to access to one central repository for all geographic data relating to broadband availability.”
Councillor Kay Cutts, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, added: “We know that access to good quality broadband is rated by many residents and businesses to be as important as other utilities like gas, electricity and water – which is reflected in the high take-up of broadband services in the hundreds of communities where BBfN has provided access. The launch of the When and Where interactive map now provides the public with easy access to the information they need 24/7.”
The development of the mapping tool completes the latest project for the IT consultancy, based on Semple Street.
FarrPoint has already advised on over £2 billion worth of investment in digital connectivity across the UK in recent years and will be making more mapping services available to organisations as part of its Connectivity Lab service..
