Michael Cantwell is running the Edinburgh Marathon in aid of the Fibrous Dysplasia Support Society (FDSS)
He will be raising funds for the support society which helps his daughter Kate. Michael now lives in England, but grew up in Lochend. His daughter was born with the rare genetic condition and results in weak cystic bones and endocrine problems.
Michael became Chair of the FDSS in 2016. The society was formed in 2007 by patients and their carers in order to provide information and support on the condition, and to promote increase awareness of the condition amongst medical professionals.
The society has developed its role and now flies medical specialists over from the USA to speak at patient conferences, including one later in the year here in Edinburgh.
FDSS finds specialists in the UK who know about the condition and promotes and contributes to research into the condition.
