Housebuilders Mactaggart & Mickel have received planning permission to build the next phase of their flagship Millerhill housing development at Shawfair in Midlothian.  Mactaggart & Mickel are currently on site, finalising the first phase of the development which comprises a total of 137 private homes and 32 affordable homes and is due to be completed at the end of the year.  Now, this second phase of development will include a further 195 new homes and 48 affordable homes with work expected to begin this autumn.

This development is the largest ever urban expansion programme for Edinburgh and Midlothian.  The entirely new area has its own railway station connecting passengers to the city in just 15 minutes. It is surrounded by eight miles of cycle paths and community woodlands.  A new road, moving traffic away from the Millerhill village area, is also due to fully open in the coming months.

The second phase of the development will have a wide range of house types and prices to suit first time buyers, families and downsizers alike, ranging from three-bedroom semi-detached and detached homes, three and four-bedroom terraced townhouses and four and five-bedroom detached houses.

The builders will also upgrade the playpark at nearby Millerhill Park.

Joanne Casey, Director of Mactaggart & Mickel, said: “This special development has really caught the imagination of buyers – attracted by these stunning homes in a beautiful rural setting with fast and easy access to the city centre. We look forward to starting work on this exciting next phase at Millerhill, as we further build this new community for future generations to enjoy living, working and playing here.”
