Winners of Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2018 announced
The winners of Scotland’s annual awards for innovation and success in social enterprise were announced at an awards ceremony in The Scottish Parliament.
The winner of Social Enterprise of the Year 2018 is CCI Scotland, Environmental Social Enterprise was awarded to Point and Sandwick Trust and the One to Watch winner is Caledonia Cremation.
In the capital the community repair hub, Edinburgh Remakery, was highly commended, Invisible Cities was shortlisted as well as GTS Solutions CIC which is the only Scottish private security industry.
Cre8te Opportunities works in Craigmillar and they were shortlisted too. The company owns 24 purpose-built business units and manages a further 40 individual units in what was a senior secondary school now Castlebrae Business Centre.
Through partnership working Cre8te identifies key issues, develops innovative projects and good practice approaches to help address complex social challenges and develop a more inclusive society.
Scene Connect Ltd were mentioned on the list. They are a Social Enterprise focused on strengthening communities through consultancy, research and development of ICT products. They work across the renewable energy and ‘energy access’ sectors.
Social Enterprise Scotland issued a call for applications earlier in the year, urging Scotland’s social enterprises to demonstrate how they’re improving our economy and society.
Quay Community Improvements were also mentioned. We have told you about them previously. Quay is a new subsidiary company of Port of Leith Housing Association (PoLHA) and has been registered as a Community Interest Company, meaning that profits generated will go directly into the communities PoLHA works with to support social, economic and physical improvements.
Link is a leading provider of new and improved homes and support services. They help older and disabled people live in their homes for longer and provide services to help them do that.
Shona Sinclair, Chair of Social Enterprise Scotland, said:
