Coming soon to a cinema near you…

There are a plethora of awards season contenders.  ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms’, directed by Lasse Hallström (Chocolat) and Joe Johnston (October Sky), is a Disney dramatic fantasy with an equally fantastic ensemble cast that includes Keira Knightley (Atonement), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice), Helen Mirren (The Queen) and Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby).

Another dramatic fantasy is ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’, the second instalment of the Fantastic Beasts film series whose screenplays have been written solely by J. K. Rowling herself.  Another ensemble cast includes Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant), Jude Law (Cold Mountain) and Johnny Depp (Finding Neverland).

‘The Girl in The Spider’s Web’ features Claire Foy (First Man) in the leading role of iconic character Lisbeth Salander.  Following acclaimed performances by Noomi Rapace (from the 2009 Swedish trilogy) and Rooney Mara (from the 2011 American remake), Foy is the third actor to perform the role on film in the first adaptation of the Millenium book series not to be written by Stieg Larsson, the author of the first three crime novels.

Animated film ‘The Grinch’ with a voice cast including Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) and Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation television series) as well as, surprisingly, Angela Lansbury (The Manchurian Candidate) and Pharrell Williams (Despicable Me animated film series composer) is on its way.  Another animated feature ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’, a sequel to ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ in 2012, with John C. Reilly (Chicago), Sarah Silverman (School of Rock), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock television series) and Jane Lynch (Glee television series) reprising their roles is also upcoming.

In Scotland I attended Dunfermline High School from 2010 to 2016 and Edinburgh Napier University from 2016 to 2020, emerging with two Advanced Higher and five Higher qualifications from the former and graduating with an undergraduate bachelor of arts honours degree in journalism from the latter. After two years away from further education due to the coronavirus pandemic, I'm going to be studying the MFA Photography course at York St John University in England from 2022 to 2024. I've achieved The Duke of Edinburgh’s (Bronze) Award and received grade five level certification for electronic keyboard from Trinity College London. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, watching television series, listening to music and going to the cinema as well as catching up with friends, travelling by railway and hostelling overnight and overindulging in food and drinks in a pub or restaurant then having to go to the gym to burn it all off again.

By studying journalism and photography, my aim of practicing photojournalism professionally will hopefully be once step closer. Both are partial artforms requiring the rest of the work to be undertaken by the audience, the specialism of photojournalism, however, providing each of its two parts with greater context. Exploring photographic techniques (aerial, timelapse, editing) through a variety of journalistic styles (features, poetry, songwriting) will allow me to develop my portfolio, hone my camera skillset and narrow my focus further in anticipation of working life. Without a global pandemic to deal with this time. Fingers crossed.
