A male pedestrian has died following a collision with a tram at the Saughton tram stop earlier this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 12.15pm.

The man suffered serious injuries during the incident and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

No-one else was hurt.

Tram services remain suspended whilst officers carry out an investigation to establish the facts and anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference number 1319 of 11th September.

Edinburgh trams have tweeted: “Due to an ongoing incident we do not anticipate to resume full services until after 1600. Please continue to check our twitter feed for further updates. We have staff at busy stops to assist customers with onward travel.”

The tram was moved away from the scene just after 3.30pm.
