CALA Homes helps ensure a top Edinburgh junior rugby team will benefit from South of the border tour.

A £500 boost from house builder and club sponsor CALA Homes (East) towards Currie Chieftains P6’s upcoming visit to Doncaster means that, having already raised around £4,500 themselves, the extra funds will ensure the 18 youngsters can each benefit from their own tour kit and hoodie, plus a kit bag – with accommodation also now fully covered – for the tour in early May.

Donald Sayers, whose son Finlay, 10, plays in the P6 team, helps the coaches and will be one of nine adults joining the tour, which will see Currie compete in up to five matches, against teams from across the UK.

He said: “For the kids to be able to don matching tour hoodies and kitbags is a real boost to team morale in what is their very first rugby tour.

“We’re very grateful to CALA. It’s a fantastic opportunity now for this talented young team to enjoy the experience and further develop as young rugby players.”

CALA Homes has been the shirt sponsor at Currie RFC since 2011, supporting it throughout that time, as well as during the club rebrand to become the Chieftains.

The club remains an important part of the Currie and Balerno community and has developed into a thriving social hub while having a hugely positive impact on the young players and families who support it from the wider surrounding area.

Derek Lawson, Land and Planning Director with CALA Homes (East), said: “The support that these young rugby players get from coaches, parents and the wider community is brilliant.

“That they were able to raise £4,500 themselves for the tour is testament to that.

“Likewise, we were delighted to be able to offer the final helping hand that ensures they get the full team experience. We wish the team the best of luck for the Doncaster tournament.”
