Elite League: Braehead Clan 8, Edinburgh Capitals 2; Fife Flyers 3, Cardifff Devils 4; Dundee Stars 0, Guildford Flames 5

The nightmare goes on for Edinburgh Capitals. The Elite League bottom-markers are currently undergoing a re-structuring after a winding-up petition involving HM Revenue and Customs.

Butcher George Ferdinando is understood to be trying to pull things together off-ice, but the 34-year-old from Edinburgh’s Silverknowes area desperately needs the depleted squad to provide a lift for success-hungry fans who have only seen their favourites win twice in the 17 league games this term.

It was former Flyers star Brendan Brooks who netted a treble as Braehead Clan thumped Edinburgh Capitals 8-2 in Glasgow on Saturday.

Capitals took a shock lead in Glasgow after 12 minutes when Sergei Banashkov caught Clan cold and silenced the Purple Army.

But Brooks levelled just over a minute later and goals from Tyler Shattock and Brooks again ended the first period scoring.

Tyler Scofield scored after 24 minutes for 4-1 before Pavel Vorobyev’s unassisted strike a minute after that gave visting fans hope.

Brooks then Craig Cescon made it 6-2 after 29 minutes and Jacob Doty and Mike Embach finished off coach Dmitri Khristich’s team with third-period strikes inside the final four minutes.

Elsewhere, Todd Dutiaume left Cardiff Devils stadium just over a week ago all smiles after securing two points after an 8-6 road win after being 5-1 behind.

The reigning Elite League champions gained revenge with a 4-3 victory at The Fife Ice Arena on Saturday.

Mid-table Fife Flyers let slip a 2-0 lead after ten minutes following an opener from Peter LeBlanc after 58 seconds and a second from Evan Bloodoff ten minutes later.

Layne Ulmer and Joey Martin levelled after 12 minutes for Devils and Gleason Fournier (cor) netted the only goal of the second session after 24 minutes to edge the visitors in front.

Andrew Lord scored with an unassisted strike after 50 minutes to secure the points. Danick Gauthier, who claimed four goals in the shock win at Cardiff, scored with 55 seconds left but it was too little, too late.

And second-bottom Dundee Stars lost 5-0 at home to league newcomers Guildford Flames after the Tayside team were 3-0 down after 13 minutes.
Ian Watters scored after 21 seconds and Brett Ferguson followed up after 1min 53sec.

And Liam Stewart, Sir Rod Stewartā€™s son, counted after 13 minutes before Jeremy Lundin made it 4-0 after 29 minutes.

Geoff Walker wrapped-up the scoring with 46 minutes on the clock in a game in which Dundee were outshot 42-22.

Stars visit Murrayfield on Sunday (face-off 6pm) and Capitals have won two of the three matches between the club’s this season.

Fife visit league pace-setters Nottingham Panthers (4pm).
