Liberton High School students visited Mexican restaurant El Toro Loco to learn about Mexican culture
Mexican restaurant El Toro Loco, located in Edinburgh’s Greater Grassmarket, hosted an exclusive, tailor-made Day of the Dead event for Modern Language pupils of Liberton High School on Thursday 2nd November.
44 pupils, aged 14 to 18, learned about Mexican culture and ‘Day of the Dead’, tested out their language skills
on the restaurant team, decorated cookies and took part in food tastings. The pupils were also the first to experiment with El Toro Loco’s newly-designed mobile app which encourages users to collect Day of the Dead stickers and watch them come alive on their mobile phones.
Day of the Dead, or ‘Dia de los Muertos’, is a Mexican holiday to remember dead family members and is celebrated all over the world from 31st October – 2nd November.
El Toro Loco, aims to offer its customers a unique street-food dining experience with its fun, laid-back
atmosphere and quirky ‘create your own’ menu consisting of burritos, tacos and quesadillas. Prices range from £4.50 – £6 for a main course and all food is made fresh each day.

We hope this day will help pupils to appreciate other cultures as well as to consider different ways to use their language skills in the world of work.”
