Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in the Dean Village which happened around 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday 26th September on a footpath at the north side of the Water of Leith, at the rear of Sunbury Place.

A 27-year-old woman and her boyfriend were walking in the area when a male approached and pulled at the victim’s duffel bag, causing her to fall to the ground.

The male then made off with the bag, which contained various electrical items and jewellery.

Anyone who can assist officers with their ongoing inquiries is asked to come forward.

The suspect is described as being of black Afro-Carribean appearance, between 25 and 35-years-old, 6ft 1ins tall with a muscular build and wearing a black baseball cap, blue jeans and a black waterproof jacket.

Detective Constable Emma Wilkinson from the Violence Reduction Unit said: “While the victim was not injured, she was left deeply upset at the theft of her bag, which contained a number of her valuable belongings.

“The area where this incident took place was likely to have been very busy, as it is a scenic route for cyclists, walkers and joggers and anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious should contact police immediately.

“In addition, if you recognise the suspect’s description, or have any other information relevant to this investigation, then please also get in touch.”

Those with information can contact the Violence Reduction Unit via 101 and quote incident number 2202 of the 26th September. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
