The council are being accused of taking no action on weeds in the city but only a couple of days ago we spotted two of the eight council gardening staff attacking the weeds with glyphosate weedkiller in Canonmills.

There really are only eight gardeners to tackle the problem citywide, and so it appears that one application of weedkiller is all that any city weed can expect. This means that some are reappearing where the gardeners have already been at work.

Rain is not a problem we are told as it only needs about an hour to soak in and get to work, but it does take about three weeks before the weeds die off.

The weeds in Canonmills outside Earthy should be gone by the time the council discusses the ways of tackling the problem at the Transport and Environment Committee meeting on 10 August. You can watch the meeting online here.
