Pavel Shegalo joining Edinburgh Capitals

Pavel Shegalo will be the first Russian goaltender in the Elite League after agreeing to make the move to Scotland to join Edinburgh Capitals.

Coach Dmitri Khristich is happy to give him the chance to realise his ambitions.

The coach said: ā€œShegalo is a young goalie. This is a guy with the right attitude. He used to be a team leader and now he wants to confirm his ambitions in a good league.”

Shegalo arrives from Belarus side Metallurg Zhlobin, where he spent the last two seasons and making over 60 appearances.

He has been involved in the VHL, Russiaā€™s second tier and was called up to KHL side Sibir Novosibirsk last season where he backed up for a game.

Heā€™s also represented his country at Under 18 level, winning a bronze medal in the 2011 World Championships.

And Shegaldo is looking forward to joining the Capitals as he tries something different at this stage in his career.

He said: ā€œI’m happy to be in the team and in a new league for me. I will try to do the best to win as many matches as possible for the team and for the fans of the city Edinburgh.ā€
