Hibs’ defender Jordon Forster is wanting to end the season with a victory against relegation contenders St Mirren to thank the ‘magnificent’ Hibs’ fans for their support.
Hibs face the Buddies at Easter Road tomorrow knowing that whatever happens they will be awarded the Championship trophy after the final whistle, but Forster is determined to win the game first.
He was unexpectedly handed the captain’s armband last week against Ayr United and he spoke about his pride at leading the team out although Neil Lennon’s motive remains unclear.
The popular defender told Hibernian TV: “We want a positive result to repay the fans who have followed us all season with a good performance and hopefully the game will be as good for us as it will be for them.
“The fans have been magnificent all season and Saturday is an opportunity to thank them.
“It’s really important to get a victory on Saturday. we don’t want to be lifting the cup after anything other than a win.
“We are confident on the back of a 4-0 victory and we are looking for much of the same.
“The manager told me on the bus that I was going to be captain against Ayr and David came over and handed the armband to me in the dressing room. It was a massive privilege for me to captain Hibs and to get a clean sheet and a win made it a good day.
“It will be a difficult game. They have played really well over the last two months and have played some good football.
“They have made it difficult for us this season so it will be a tough game. They have a lot to play for and will come out fighting so we have to make sure that we are ready to perform.”
