Bonhams will sell some examples of the Scottish Colourists this week at their auction room in Queen Street.

Works include:

Pink Roses in a Chinese Vase by Samuel Peploe (1871-1935) estimated at £150,000-200,000.  Painted around 1920, the objects are – unusually for a Peploe still life –  depicted against a red background. A similar painting from the same period, Still Life of Mixed Roses in Chinese Vase, was sold at Bonhams Edinburgh for more than £470,000.

Still life of Roses and Fruit by George Hunter (1877-1931) estimated at £60,000-80,000. Hunter and Peploe pioneered still life painting in Scotland in the early years of the 20th century.

Cassis, by Samuel Peploe, estimated at £70,000-100,000. Painted in 1913 when the artist was visiting Cassis, a small coastal commune in the south of France, 20 kilometres to the east of Marseille. It became a favourite haunt of the Colourists in the years immediately before the First World War and in the decade after the war has ended.

Bonhams Scottish Art sale will take place in Edinburgh on 12 October.
