Saturday morning is my favourite time of the week. After a busy week, what better time to take a step back from the incessant nature of life’s pressures and take a little time to reflect. In recent weeks, I’ve being doing this in the company of my mother in a dainty little café on Edinburgh’s London Road.
Cherry’s Café, within the shadow of Hibernian FC’s Easter Road Stadium and a borek’s throw from the Meadowbank Shopping Centre, has a Mediterranean theme with a Turkish flavour (the owner has a Galatasaray scarf proudly adorning a wall) However, it also does a mean Scottish menu with their wide-ranging choices producing a fabulous Scottish breakfast among other local delicacies.
The first thing that strikes you when you enter Cherry’s Café is the warm greeting you get from the young, friendly staff. The service is first class and I’ve not yet had to wait longer than five minutes for my meal. The Turkish fayre on offer is tempting but I usually opt for the traditional Scottish breakfast which is a good as any I’ve sampled in our capital city. The tea is served in a large traditional pot (none of the tea bag in a cup of hot water nonsense you get in some cafés); the coffee strong and the hot chocolate is wonderful!
The café is admittedly small but this lends itself to an intimate environment and you really feel you are important to the hard-working owner and staff. I look forward to my Saturday morning visit to Cherry’s Café as I have now come to expect a high standard of service, a wide range of delicious home and continental food and a wonderfully cosy atmosphere.
Cherry’s Café is a delightful experience – I thoroughly recommend it.
