Following an intelligence led operation police have recovered a firearm and a quantity of money during a search of a house and vehicle in the east of the city yesterday.
Officers charged a man and woman, both 26, following the recovery at an address on Brunstane Bank.
Both are scheduled to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court today (Wednesday, Sept 30).
Detective Inspector Stuart Harkness said: “Police Scotland will fully investigate all information received with regards to Serious and Organised Crime and Firearms within the communities we police.
“This is a significant recovery which has removed a lethal weapon from our streets along with a significant sum of money.
“I would appeal to the public who have information around firearms or Serious and Organised crime in their communities to provide that to their local officers, by contacting police on 101 or in confidence through the registered charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
