The social media campaign designed to raise awareness of our beautiful city is starting right now at 6:00am and will run until tomorrow at the same time. #ThisisEdinburgh24 is being run by Marketing Edinburgh the company tasked with doing just that – marketing our capital city.

We are hosting a live blog of the event over here and we do hope you will join in the campaign throughout the day.

There will be recommendations for the best places to go for coffee, to try out yoga and buy goods of all kinds, activities, tweets and videos galore. It should be a busy day!

You will find our coverage here.

Tickets for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay are now on sale.

Last year a sell-out 75,000 revellers from over 70 countries joined the New Year’s Eve celebrations in the capital and organisers promise another stellar line-up to party into 2016 with a new Street Party experience including additional entertainment and increased arena space for crowds to ‘bring in the bells’.

Revellers can soak up the festival atmosphere, when the city centre comes alive with live music and DJs from multiple stages, giant screens and attractions throughout the arena. Set against the historic Edinburgh Castle, the hourly Teaser Fireworks will launch the celebrations at 9pm until the spectacular Midnight Moment.  A  coordinated Countdown to the Bells before the magnificent Midnight Fireworks see over six tonnes of pyrotechnics launch from the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle and Calton Hill, with images beamed to TV screens around the world to an estimated audience of over 1 billion people. Back on the street the traditional singing of Auld Lang Syne, described as Scotland’s gift to the world, will help welcome in the New Year at the ‘Home of Hogmanay’.

The building at Fountainbridge which used to be home to the North British Rubber Company is to be redeveloped and is due to open in Autumn 2018.

The project will require an investment of £10m, but the Heritage Lottery Fund has already pledged a portion of that money in an award made last year. Other funding will come from Creative Scotland, The Architectural Heritage Fund and other donations.

The renovation will provide a new printmaking studio with areas for both the public and artists.

News from Juniper Green Community Council about their local park:

This coming Sunday, 26 July, at 2pm, local naturalist Rik Morley will lead a nature walk in Curriemuirend Park. The Park is part of Edinburgh’s “Living Landscapes” which means it has recently been converted to a wildlife park.

Meet at the Curriemuirend Park Notice Board at the top of Wester Hailes Road.  Prudent to bring a waterproof and any under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.  Come and see what species have colonised the park and learn what we can do to preserve and enhance it.
