Pilgrim

Pilgrim is a black comedy about Christy, a hard-edged, misanthropic young Dubliner who finally discovers that the world doesn’t revolve around him. He has flown to California for an extended trip to indulge in the wild pleasures of the West Coast after inadvertently getting Penny, his childhood sweetheart, pregnant.

On September 11 2001 Christy becomes embroiled in the 9/11 horror. His return flight to Dublin is re-routed to Gambo, a tiny fishing community in Newfoundland as US airspace is closed. He is forced to stay there for four days because all civilian flights are grounded.

Pilgrim is performed by Rex Ryan (Best Actor nomination Dublin Fringe Festival 2013) and directed by Aoife Spillane-Hinks The designer is Kate Moylan with lighting by Eoin Winning, sound by Alan Darcy and Video/Media by Pádraig Conaty. Pilgrim is produced by Gonzo Theatre Company in association with Breda Cashe.

Rex Ryan was in the European première of ‘The Motherfucker With the Hat’ also directed by Aoife Spillane-Hinks in Dublin last year. He was nominated for best Actor Dublin Fringe Fest 13 for his role in Philip Doherty’s comedy ‘The Birthday Man’. Aoife Spillane-Hinks has directed many productions with Rough Magic. Philip Doherty’s many Awards include two P J O’Connor Awards for RTE radio plays.
