SPFL Pyramid Play-Off 1st Leg – Saturday 25 April 2015 – Meadowbank Stadium

History was made at Meadowbank Stadium on Saturday afternoon when Scottish Lowland League Champions Edinburgh City met Highland League champions Brora Rangers in the first leg of the Scottish League Two play-off semi-final.

This is the first season non-league clubs can try to gain league status via an end of season play-off system and the clash of the relevant non-league champions north and south of the country was always going to be a tense one.

The visitors, managed by former Hearts player Davie Kirkwood, dominated the first half but couldn’t score.

A goal did arrive early in the second half when City’s Ortega Deniran seized upon a short passback from Houston to give the home side the lead.

However, with ten minutes left, Maclean gave Rangers a deserved equaliser.

City face the long trip north next Saturday for the second leg but will be confident that the tie is far from over despite the fact Brora are unbeaten in the Highland League this season.

The winners will play the side who finished bottom of SPFL League Two – Montrose – in a two-legged final for a place in next season’s League Two.
