Doing brisk business at the theatre in Riddle’s Court, Lawnmarket is Edinburgh Fringe show ’Ernest; or Much Ado About Muffins’. But the audience coming through the 16th century arch is not the typical fringe audience, or at least not what one might at first expect a fringe audience to be. Producer Phil Jacobs explains:
’Our show is on 11:45 in the morning so we don’t have many young folk in their twenties. Our audience tends to be locals, families and ’Fringe veterans’. ’Fringe Veteran’ is the name we give to the more mature festival goer who has battled the weather (and the shows) for twenty plus years and has lived to tell the tale. Fringe veterans are very important to the fringe as a whole and we’re very proud to have them in our audience. We’re also really pleased to be entertaining local people. Edinburgh has given us so much it feels good to be giving something back’.
