The City of Edinburgh Running Festival will hold a new race in memory of the former Hearts, Rangers and Scotland player Sandy Jardine.

As well as being a superb footballer Sandy was also a very good sprinter who made a number of appearances on the circuit back in the seventies.

He sadly passed away earlier this year and CERF with Sandy’s wife Shona’s permission decided to hold a race as a tribute to him.

Several of his friends have sponsored the scratch 300m Sandy Jardine Memorial Race, and  Hibs, Hearts and Rangers have all been approached and will be represented on the night along with a number of local football and rugby clubs.

Competitors will be running in their club colours the winner will take away a first prize of £250 along with the Sandy Jardine Memorial Trophy.

The event kicks off at 6-15pm on Friday night at Meggetland with the Memorial Race expected to take place around 9.25pm.
