EDGAS –  The Edinburgh Gilbert and Sullivan Society will present PRINCESS IDA – by W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan in the King’s Theatre Edinburgh from Tuesday 1 to Saturday 5 April 2014.

PRINCESS IDA tells the story of Princess Ida who is betrothed to Prince Hilarion in infancy.  Twenty years later when the prince comes to claim her, he finds that the princess has set up a college that is strictly for women.  The only way that the prince can achieve his goal is to infiltrate the college disguised as a woman!

Princess Ida is the eighth in the series of Savoy Operas by the Victorian masters W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.  Based on a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson it has, for Victorian times, a remarkably modern theme dealing as it does with the subject of ‘women’s lib.’

PRINCESS IDA runs from Tuesday 1 April to Saturday 5 April, nightly at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Saturday 5 April at 2.30pm.  Ticket prices range from £21 to £12 in the beautifully refurbished seating in the King’s Theatre, Edinburgh.

Discounts are available with a reduction of 10% for groups of 8 or over; and for children under the age of 16 all tickets are only £7.50.
