Two men have been arrested and charged as part of an ongoing operation to tackle serious and organised crime in Edinburgh.

Between Wednesday 15th and Friday 17th January, officers carried out intelligence-led searches and enquiries at properties in Lower Granton Road, Captains Road and Burdiehouse Avenue.

As a result, £113,000 worth of cocaine was recovered from inside these addresses along with a small quantity of cannabis, firearms ammunition and a CS spray canister.

A 22-year-old man who was arrested on Wednesday appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court the following day, having been charged with alleged drugs and firearms offences.

On Friday, another 22-year-old was also charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act and Firearms Act and is scheduled to appear in court today (Monday).

Detective Inspector Stuart Harkness said: “These arrests reflect Police Scotland’s continued commitment to tackling serious and organised crime groups operating in Edinburgh.

“Through working with the local communities and gathering vital intelligence from them it allows us to carry out these type of operations.

“A recovery of drugs to this value will have a significant impact on those involved in their distribution and the recovery of the ammunition and CS spray helps make our streets safer.

“I would appeal for members of the public who have information in relation to crime in their area to share this with officers from their new Community Policing Teams, through contacting 101 or alternatively they can contact the charity Crimestoppers in complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.”
