Mikaeel Kular  – Redhall House – Bridgend Farmhouse AGM – Tram testing – Football fans in training

Following a harrowing few days last week for Edinburgh and in particular the community in Drylaw, a woman will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court this morning charged with the murder of three year-old Mikaeel Kular who was reported missing from his home on Thursday morning.

Although unconfirmed by Police Scotland it is widely reported that the woman is his mother, Rosdeep, who reported his disappearance to the police. The toddler’s body was discovered in woodland to the rear of a house where the family used to live in Fife.

Two men have also been arrested and charged in connection with comments on Twitter and Facebook in connection with the child’s murder. More on that aspect of the case here

A wide range of subjects arise at the council’s Petitions committee from cycling on pavements to bus services. The most recent petition is one urging the council to Save Redhall House and Lawn. This property is B-listed and was sold by the council in 2007 with certain conditions imposed on the buyer regarding redevelopment and maintenance. The property is now on the Buildings at Risk Register and the petitioners wish to ensure that the current owner takes action to ensure that the building and grounds are preserved.

Other petitions which require further signatures to become valid include one to rename Festival Square Mandela Square and another to build an outdoor skate park in Bruntsfield/Morningside.

You can read all the petitions here.

An AGM will be held at Inch Park Community Sports Club on 2 February to discuss the possible bid to buy Bridgend Farmhouse. Bridgend Inspiring Growth (BIG for short) say on their website:-“BIG is a charitable organisation based in south Edinburgh. We are working towards the renovation of Bridgend Farmhouse for community ownership, use and benefit.  Over the past three years we have created a shared vision for the Farmhouse reflecting the ideas and aspirations of local people and organisations.
.
“The next step is to take over ownership of the building and transform the farmhouse for the benefit of the local community and beyond.”

The social enterprise which might result from this could provide a base for a variety of activities including cycling walking and green gym in the nearby Craigmillar Park and Woodland.

If you are interested then you are invited to go to the meeting. More information here.

st andrew square tram signThis sign for tram testing is in St Andrew Square. The Edinburgh Reporter was in the square last month when the tram was brought in from Gogar to show off the new livery for Transport for Edinburgh, but we have not seen any trams so near the city centre since then. Have you spotted any trams out and about? Why not send us any photos you have of the trams on the streets of Edinburgh so that we can keep tabs on the progress of tram testing? Upload your photos to our story board here.
