Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following an attempted bag snatch around 7am yesterday in Ferniehill Drive.

A 42-year-old woman was waiting at a bus stop when a female approached and engaged her in conversation.

The suspect then attempted to grab the woman’s handbag and a struggle ensued, during which time the victim held onto her property.

A passing motorist witnessed the struggle and sounded her horn before another driver also drew up. At this time the female made off empty-handed in Ferniehill Avenue.

Detective Constable John McShane said: “Fortunately, the victim was uninjured, nor did she surrender her handbag.

“We are conducting local enquiries to identify the female responsible and would urge anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the Ferniehill area on Sunday morning to contact police immediately.

“In addition, we would also like to trace the second driver, who drew up just before the suspect made off and would ask that this individual comes forward to assist with our enquiries.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
