Debbie Chapman: Queen of Hearts, Space Cabaret, 18 to 21 August, £8 (£6 concessions)
Queen of Hearts is a theatrical cabaret with the key themes being that of love and loss. Debbie takes inspiration from her biggest musical influences Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland as she discusses why she’s always the bridesmaid and never the bride. She speaks of her first boyfriend at the age of 10, getting engaged to the wrong man, falling in love with her gay best friend and making the most of the times she has been young, free and single.
Debbie, who grew up in Yorkshire and trained at the Arts Educational Schools, London has been performing in Musical Theatre around the world for the past 15 years.
Debbie’s experience includes Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (The Lowry, Manchester), Manhattan Nights (Stockport Plaza), Production Vocalist on the cruise ship Queen Victoria and most recently Mrs Greer in Annie and Ms Drift in Santa Claus The Musical (Grand Theatre, Singapore). This is her first one-woman show. She will be joined on stage by Musical Director Joseph Atkins (Victor, Victoria at Southwark Playhouse & Josephine and I at the Bush Theatre directed by Phyllida Lloyd).
Through an amalgamation of comedic stories and heartfelt song, Debbie attempts to analyse why her fairy tale of love has yet to become a reality and why, in many ways, she feels just like the Queen of Hearts.
