Lothian and Borders Police are currently responding to an incident in which a woman has died after being involved in a collision with a vehicle in an Edinburgh street.

The woman and her female companion, who are both believed to be in their 70s, were in the city’s Palmerston Place around 8.30pm when the accident happened.

The women are understood to be foreign visitors on holiday in the city.

The driver of the small van type vehicle stopped and has been assisting police. The road is currently closed and there are diversions in place.
