The Conservative Group on The City of Edinburgh Council have 11 councillors in the present council. These are spread across Colinton/Fairmilehead (where there are two), Corstorphine/Murrayfield, Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart, Forth, Almond, Meadows/Morningside, City Centre, Pentland Hills, Southside/Newington and Inverleith Wards. They are fielding 20 candidates across all Wards in the forthcoming election in May.

Their manifesto is shown below. The Conservative Group leader, Jeremy Balfour, summed it up for The Reporter:-“We want to give strong leadership and a clear vision for the City. We will take the difficult decisions which this Administration have failed to do.

We want to look at all Council budgets and make sure the money that we spend is done efficiently and on key services.

We want to work in partnership with business and the Third Sector. On the Third Sector we will let them know what money they will get from the Council for a 3 year period rather on a annual basis. This will allow them to forward plan with more certainty. We will also appoint a Third Sector Champaign amongst the Administration Councillors to engage with this sector.

We want to give parents more power over their Child’s education.”

Three councillors are retiring:-

Alastair Paisley is retiring from Pentland Hills Ward.
Kate MacKenzie is retiring from Almond Ward.
Gordon Buchan is retiring from Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart.
