Development Management Sub-Committee – Big Wheel – Outdoor Gym – Forth Neighbourhood Partnership – Penguins on their holidays

The Development Management Sub-Committee meet this morning and a couple of prominent addresses feature on the agenda which is reproduced for you below. The council will discuss, but will not take any decision on, the future of the former Barnton Hotel site as a proposed retirement flat development.  This is one of two pre-application reports which is to be considered this morning and which will allow councillors to advise the Head of Planning the various factors to be considered by the property developers in eventually making any application. They will also be asked to approve the construction of temporary buildings at James Gillespie’s High School, and to approve the improvements to Charlotte Square on three sides to create new pedestrian space and alterations to street furniture.

The Edinburgh Evening News has reported that the Big Wheel planned for Princes Street Gardens is to be located in the West Gardens and will be running from next month.

Some Gentoo penguins from Edinburgh Zoo have gone on their holidays. It appears that the zoo have to make repairs to the penguin enclosure, and so have moved the current occupants out. The Belfast Telegraph has more.
