The Bonham have renamed their bar.  You can win afternoon tea for two in their newly sumptuous surroundings in our competition!

When the team at The Bonham were considering the name for the new bar in the Hotel at Edinburgh’s West End, they went back to the building’s roots.  The Consulting Room reflects the heritage of the building at 35 Drumsheugh Gardens which was once a private clinic established by surgeons, Captain Henry Wade of the Scottish Horse Mounted Brigade and Professor David Wilkie of Edinburgh University.

In the early 20th century, surgeons were not paid by hospitals and were forbidden from accepting money, so these doctors offered their services voluntarily and made their money through private clinics.  Many patients would have been helped in the building which is now part of The Town House Collection.

When The Bonham first opened its door in 1998, it quickly became established as ‘the’ boutique hotel in the city offering luxury accommodation and classic dining  – primarily for residents.  However, with the introduction of The Consulting Room, local residents now have somewhere new to enjoy an early evening glass of wine on the way home; groups of friends can meet for a lighter lunch option or residents can enjoy a cocktail before heading through to dinner.

For the first time, from January, afternoon tea will also be available at The Bonham.

The Consulting Room is part of a six figure refurbishment programme at the hotel which includes a refreshed reception area and upgraded meeting rooms.  Harris Tweed has been introduced to the interior design with the soft furnishings n ow matching those of sister hotel, Glasgow’s Blythswood Square. The iconic fabric has become a signature of the luxury hotel group.

Johanne Falconer, General Manager, said: ‘We’re delighted to be able to showcase The Bonham’s make-over.  The Consulting Room is a welcome addition to our hotel and we hope it will quickly become a favourite with our neighbours too.

‘When thinking about the name for our new bar, we were fascinated to learn of the history of the building and that it has played such an important part in the history of Edinburgh’s west end.  We hope that our own ‘prescriptions’ will prove to be as popular!’

Opening hours – 12-12 Monday to Saturday. 12.30-12 on Sunday.
