The council’s Policy and Strategy Committee meet today to discuss among other things the fate of the Central Library building on George IV Bridge. The roof in our photo today is the one at the corner of George IV bridge and Victoria Street. The council propose to spend around £10m incorporating the redundant buildings at the top of Victoria Street into the main library. Perhaps one of their better ideas?

Meanwhile The Edinburgh Evening News reports that the Green Party have lodged a motion to be heard at the meeting to review the introduction of a bed tax in the city, but local hotels are not necessarily behind the idea.

The Herald reports that Edinburgh is way behind Glasgow in attracting retail business, quoting a property fund manager who says that Glasgow gives retailers what they want whereas Edinburgh has concentrated on tourism.

The Scotsman’s Ian Swanson has reported that the council may have difficulty in providing housing for all by the end of 2012. The legislation passed in 2003 means that the council have to provide homes for everyone, whereas at present there is a kind of prioritising system meaning that the most vulnerable get preference.
