Football is always a newsworthy topic and never more so than in Edinburgh this weeked, where one of our city teams sacked its manager, and the other has apparently been put up for sale.

The Herald reports that Vladmir Romanov has finally conceded that he would be happy to offload the Tynecastle club.

Meantime at Easter Road, Colin Calderwood found out that twelve wins in under 12 months was not enough to justify him a future with the club. Twitter has been rife with suggestions as to who his replacement might be.

Hibs posted the following statement on their website yesterday afternoon:-

“Hibernian FC announced today that the Board of Directors had relieved Colin Calderwood of his duties as Manager of the Club.

Chairman Rod Petrie said “I would like to thank Colin for his time as Manager of the Club. The Board decided that it was in the Club’s best interests to find a new Manager to take Hibernian forward.”
The Club will be making no further comment today.”

The club holds its AGM tomorrow.

In addition The Edinburgh Evening News reports that a community stadium must be put back on the agenda after a report commissioned by the council and Hearts was published today. Apparently the report suggests that redevelopment of Tynecastle is no longer feasible.

And Lothian Buses have made some changes to their services today which you can find out about on Grant’s Blog. We really have to ask this – does he write it himself? Look out for the new advertising on a couple of buses too – advertising for The City of Edinburgh Council’s sponsorship of the Edinburgh Inspiring Capital Clipper, the yacht taking part in the round the world race, and which is costing the council £55,000 in this year.

According to The Journal Online, the official journal of The Law Society of Scotland, the trial has opened of the man accused of attempting to murder The Law Society of Scotland’s chief accountant nearly six years ago.

“Leslie Cumming was attacked with a knife outside his home in the Murrayfield area of Edinburgh on 23 January 2006.

Robert Graham (46) has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The trial is taking place at the High Court in Edinburgh.”
