OK so we know it is only the middle of October and it is still 2011 but if you’re quick then you can get tickets for a concert at The Usher Hall next March. The St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra are appearing there for one night only. The theatre tell us that the programme will feature:-

Prokofiev Classical Symphony
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No 1
Shostakovich Symphony No 5
Musical Director: Yuri Temirkanov
Soloist: Dmitri Alexeev (piano)

“The orchestra has an incredibly rich historical heritage and the two symphonies on their programme here are testament to earlier troubled times. Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony was written amidst revolution, while the Shostakovich was conceived under duress from the Soviet authorities.”
