If you owe money to The City of Edinburgh Council then you are more likely to end up either in court, or with sheriff officers on your doorstep here in the capital than anywhere else in Britain.
According to BigBrotherWatch the council enforces more cases of unpaid council tax or parking fines than any other UK council. Big BrotherWatch are a civil liberties group which found out the information through making Freedom of Information requests to all councils.
Only some answered of course so that makes Edinburgh good on two counts….New figures show that court action has been pursued by the council for unpaid council tax and parking fines 287,315 times in the last three years – more than 262 cases every day of the year and more than any of the other 320 UK local authorities that featured in the survey. The number is almost double that in large English cities such as Manchester and Liverpool.
