According to Twitter there was possibly a stabbing incident in Raeburn Place yesterday evening, but so far apart from a couple of tweets there is nothing else to confirm it. Twitter is of course used by many to break news stories and Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service have just celebrated a year on Twitter which has seen them attract around a thousand followers. One of the Scottish Law Lords who sits at the Supreme Court in London, Lord Hope, gave the keynote address at the Scottish Young Lawyers Association dinner on Friday evening. He was one of the judges who ruled on the case of Peter Cadder, which resulted in emergency legislation being brought in by The Scottish Government. The case is an important one meaning that all suspects must be given access to a lawyer before being questioned by police. Lord Hope expresses the view in the article in The Scotsman that the new Supreme Court in England does not threaten the independence of Scots Law.
The Scottish Conservatives are launching their manifesto in Glasgow this morning according to the BBC. Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary, William Hague, has been attacked for attending a £250 a head dinner at The Witchery organised by conservative fundraising group led by wealthy Edinburgh man Malcolm Scott in an article in The Herald today. The article wonders whether it should have been a priority for Hague at this time.
While Edinburgh’s trams are not even on the tracks yet, in Dublin it has just been announced that the tram service, the LUAS will be getting free wifi over the next few months.
And it was in Edinburgh St Mary’s Cathedral that the former front-man of 80s group the Communards, Richard Coles, got religion according to The Telegraph
