Link Group and Dunedin Canmore are bringing their young tenants together for a special event on Friday 11th March.
“Thank Gorgie it’s Friday” will provide housing information to young tenants (aged 16-25) in an attempt to improve tenancy sustainment as well as providing advice on opportunities for young people across the Edinburgh area.
Stalls hosting information have been set up and these include; Edinburgh’s Telford and Stevenson Colleges, the Volunteer Centre and Job Centre Plus for employment and education opportunities, as well as LinkLiving, Impact Arts, Four Square and Venture Trust.
SmartLiving, run by LinkLiving, will be holding a peer education session on homelessness awareness and tenancy sustainment. SmartLiving recruits young volunteers aged 16 to 25 and trains them to become Peer Educators who can deliver the message of how difficult maintaining a tenancy can be from their own experiences.
Tenants of Link Housing and Dunedin Canmore aged 16-25 have all been sent invitations to the event, which will also offer advice on housing options and employability in addition to the peer education and tenancy sustainment sessions.
The young people will also be able to take part in a range of activities as well as getting health checks, massages, free goody bags and entry to a free prize draw. Music will be provided by Live and Unplugged Regional finalist Ihsan Kerr to close the event.
Claire Gardiner, SmartLiving Peer Education Worker, said “This is a great event to end a fantastic year bringing young people from across the city together.”
Susan Walls, SmartLiving Volunteer added, “We will be able to show off our peer education sessions we have been developing in our volunteer meetings!”
Local young people aged 16-25 in the Gorgie Dalry area, irrespective of housing tenure, have also been invited and are also welcome to attend to find out more about the range of opportunities in education, employability, housing and volunteering on offer.
