Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and woman were seriously assaulted in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh.
The incident happened around 3am on Sunday 13th March in Earl Grey Street. The man and woman, who are both 24, were walking in the area following a night out when they encountered a group of people between the Tesco and Omni Furnishing stores.
An argument has then taken place resulting in the woman being punched to the face by a female suspect and falling to the ground. Another female and possibly a male have joined in the assault and kicked the woman while she was on the ground.
The man she was with then tried to intervene but was also punched to the face by the group and suffered a broken jaw.
He was taken to the ERI and then later to St John’s Hospital for treatment.
The woman suffered bruising to her jaw, arms and legs.
Detectives are now keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the assault.
The first suspect is described as female, white, 18 or 19-years-old, 5ft 5ins or 5ft 6ins tall with short straight black hair. She was wearing a black dress with short sleeves and appeared to be heavily bronzed with a lot of make-up and fake eyelashes.
The second suspect is described as white, 18 or 19-years-old, around 5ft 4ins tall with short styled strawberry blonde hair. She was wearing glasses and a lot of make-up with red circles on her cheeks.
There is no description of the male suspect believed to be involved.
A police spokesman said: ‘Both victims have suffered painful injuries following this assault and we are eager to hear from anyone who can help us identify and locate the suspects.
‘Anyone who was on Earl Grey Street at around 3am on Sunday morning and saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.
‘Similarly, anyone with any other information that can assist with our enquiries is also asked to come forward.’
