A series of Introductory sessions explaining The Beltane Fire Festival will take place this week. These introductory lessons will explain the history of Beltane, what performing entails and what is expected of those who are involved.  These sessions will be running during the week prior to the main recruitment session on Sunday 27th of February at the Arts Complex @ 5pm, on Sunday 27th February St Margaret’s House, 151 London Road, Edinburgh, EH7 6AE.

The Ceilidh Club at The Bongo Club runs every Tuesday night from 8.20pm, bringing you the best in Scottish ceilidh music and dance.  Tonight’s guests are the Òr Ceilidh Band.  There will be a caller who will teach the dances, so the event is great for everyone from complete beginners to experienced ceilidhers.  “Come and experience Scottish dance the way it’s meant to be!”

Head to The Filmhouse to see a special screening of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, from 1919 by German director Robert Weine. This silent movie will be accompanied by a live music score by acclaimed accompanists Minima. Tickets are £10 or £8 concession, more details can be found here.

Today the first of a series of lectures on Faith and the Environment at St Phillip’s Church, Joppa, takes place from 2pm – 3.30pm. Two discussions will examine the biblical and theological basis for environmental stewardship, session 1 will focus on God’s Abundance and Brokenness. St Phillip’s has a lively programme of lectures. The Edinburgh Lectures continues on 24th February with architect, Rick Mather, talking about Creative Cities. Mather leads an internationally renowned architectural, masterplanning and urban design practice. He has a particular interest in the cultural and education sectors. In his talk he will reflect on how architecture can combine with culture and creativity in re-visioning urban spaces. Live music fans of all ages are set for a real treat this evening when award winning Brian Hughes brings his nine piece band to The Bongo Club as part of a short promotional tour to support the release of his new album ‘My Kind Of Paradise’.  Brian said, “having recently completed a successful Scandinavian tour, and before heading off to foreign shores, we felt it would be nice to play our own country and see what the reaction is.  We guarantee you’ll have a great night!” Doors are at 7pm and tickets are £8.50.

About-Face exhibition at the Scottish Storytelling Centre- Launch Night. Meet the artist, Mary Kenny’s whose drawings and paintings explore the relationship between being an Artist and a Storyteller. Drawing on personal experiences, dreams, pure imagination as well as stories and belief this work looks at what place the role of the artist has in the life of an artist and storyteller.

Local band Kid Canaveral are playing a gig at The Wee Red Bar to raise funds to help them get to America’s prestigious South By Southwest Festival, and do a mini tour whilst they’re at it.  Support comes from The Last Battle and mystery guests.  Tickets are a very reasonable £7, so why not go along and help them out.

At the Art Complex, St Margarets house there is the 2011 Beltane Open Meeting. This is your chance to find out what is happening with this year’s Beltane and how to can get involved.  Also this meeting is important to recruit performers, stewards, photographers, and videographers at this meeting.  The production and front of house crew will be recruited from mid-March.

What is Beltane?
