Blind and disabled workers from Edinburgh’s Blindcraft factory will stand side by side with supporters outside The City of Edinburgh Council Chambers this Thursday from 9.30am, ahead of the final decision on the factory’s fate.

The majority of workers last week voted against the three day week proposal saying it was a ‘cut too far’. They now wait to hear their fate and the fate of the 200 year-old factory at Thursday’s Budget meeting. Workers and campaigners will sit in the Council galleries as the announcement on the factory’s future is made.

Workers want to thank all those so far for their kind words of support and would urge anyone who has half an hour to spare between 9.30- 10.00 am on Thursday to head to the front of the Council chambers on the Royal Mile to support their plight.

Hannah Lister, from the Save Blindcraft campaign said today-
‘The workers are absolutely gutted that the factory looks set to close. The cuts that the Council administration in Edinburgh wanted to achieve were unrealistic from the off. We must continue to support these workers and make the council realise that they can’t simply pick on what they think are easy targets for cuts. Please come along and show your support on Thursday. The support means a lot to the workers, who are such an integral and proud part of our Edinburgh community.’
